Chikura Kurabe

Chikura Kurabe was the oldest form of Wrestling from ancient Japan. It was said to have been practiced as far back as 230 B.C. Chukura Kurabe was a Self Defense Art that was also practiced as a sport.

Chikura Kurabe was a Grappling Style that resembled Sumo and Wrestling. Other ancient Japanese Grappling styles were Tekoi and Kumi-Uchi. Kumi-Uchi was a Combat Style of Sumo, that was used on the battlefield.

Yawara was another ancient Japanese style of Grappling that focused on Joint Manipulation and Limb Immobilization. These ancient Martial Arts are a few of the styles that laid the foundation for one of modern Martial Arts most effective styles - Ju Jitsu.
