Shooto
Shooto originated out of Shoot Wrestling and was established as an orginization in 1985 by Satoru Sayama, a Japanese Professional Wrestler. Sayama who had trained in Shoot Wrestling wanted to create a sport that was a realistic and effective Fighting System.
At the time all of the other Pro Wrestling orginazations used (worked or scripted) matches. The Shooto organization hosted the Vale Tudo Japan tournament in the summer of 1994.
Before this tournament Shooto did not allow Punches to the face when an opponent was in the Ground and be Pounded mode. But after seeing Ground and Pound up close and personal, Sayama decided to allow this form of Ass Kicking into the Shooto rules.
Also allowed are Chokeholds, Joint Locks, Kicks, Knee Strikes, Punches, Takedowns and Throws. Yorinaga Nakamura brought Shooto to the U.S in the late 1980s. He began teaching at the Inosanto Academy in 1991 and instructed Erik Paulson among others.
