Ground and Pound is a term used to describe a headknocking Grappler.
Submissions?
The best Ground and Pounders Don't Need no Stinking Submissions. All they need is some space to launch some haymakers down to their opponent's head, and it's "turn out the lights, the party's over."
Ground and Pound is a tactic used in Mixed Martial Arts in which a fighter takes his opponent to the ground using a Takedown or Throw, and puts them in a position to be pounded on (with Fists, Elbows, and anything else the Ground and Pounder can Throw at them).
From a Top Position, the Full Mount or Side Mount, and some Ground and Pounders can even commit Knock Out from inside the Guard.
The Ground and Pound style was a perfect fit for X Collegiate Wrestlers who are able to take an opponent down, achieve superior position, then start raining down Punches on their opponent who is laying flat on their back on the mat and getting their last meal beat out of them.
Ground and Pound is a straightforward style that gets down to the Ass Kicking in an effective and reliable way. And it's a position that unless the Pounder gets reckless, and gets caught with a Submission, the Pounding can continue indefinitely.
And if a Ground and Pounder isn't able to K.O. his opponent he can then go for a Submission. Continued Pounding on a guy can distract and weaken a fighter to allow a Submission.
But if you are a Ground and Pounder, having a good Submission Defense is a priority.
